Our space theme in February was a great success! The children had a blast learning about space in the classroom, and what they had learned really showed at our trip to OMSI. The children used incredible vocabulary terms, remembering constellations, planet names, and other space terminology. They took turns sleeping in a space ship and under the stars! Thank you parents for driving and participating in our trip to OMSI, and remembering the yellow t-shirts. (It's so much easier to spot our children!) Pajama Day was awesome! The kids had fun wearing something different to class and having pancakes for lunch! We have also enjoyed Friday mornings with the Big Kids (our high school buddies who visit from Hockinson High). They have been learning ABC's. Every week, the Big Kids come prepared with books, art projects, and themes based on the letter for the week. Ask your child about the exploding bags! For March, we are going to enter the world of fantasy, history, and geography. We are focusing on Arabian Nights, Africa, and Robin Hood. Many activities are planned. You may have noticed the castle and dragon on the wall in the classroom already, and we are going to make a coat of arms and magic carpet. The dress up area is transformed into a beauty parlor- so the children can dress up in jewelry, crowns, face paint, mustaches, and other treasures. We also have wild animals out for creative additions to block structures and play. Of course, we have cooking project planned, such as bastilla, flat bread, and green eggs and ham. And, in the spirit of our African Lunch, we will learn to count in an African language, and perform the Abi Yoyo play. Be sure to spend some time in the classroom checking out our projects, and plan to attend the African Lunch! Dates to Remember: African Lunch- Tuesday, March 16th at 11:45 Field trip to Big Air Gymnastics- date to be announced... Needed Materials: Big boxes, curlers, hair clips, large paper bags, newspaper. If you have any of these items to spare, please bring them in for the children to enjoy! Thanks! Miss Kathy, Miss Georgine, Miss Stephanie, Miss Theresa |
